Sexual Health

Many people don’t realise that some sexually transmitted infections do not produce symptoms. Therefore, if you have had unprotected intercourse it is advisable to discuss it with your GP.  Many of these infections are easily treated, but if undetected can cause problems; undiagnosed chlamydia infection in women can lead to significant fertility problems.

If you have symptoms that concern you, or you are worried that you may have been exposed to a sexually transmitted disease in the past, we can carry out full infection testing for you.

This usually includes urine or swab tests for chlamydia and gonorrhoea and blood tests for HIV, Hepatitis B & C and Syphilis. Swab tests for herpes infection can be carried out if there are active lesions.

It is advisable to come in the morning for these tests so they can be promptly sent to the laboratory and a first morning urine specimen will be needed.
